The Music Program gives students a chance to enjoy singing, playing, and learning music through all learning modalities. They are afforded the opportunity to learn math, reading, social studies, art, science, physical education, and all other subjects through music education.
Students have the opportunity to listen to, perform, write, and move to music from every style and culture from around the world. Not only do the students sing and play instruments, but they also are given the opportunity to create puppets, dramatize, and write plays.
The Music Studio is very colorful and inviting. The walls are decorated with music posters and symbols. A baby grand piano, complete trap drum set, a SMART board, and guitars are on display in front of each window.
Students learn to play the violin, guitar, rhythm instruments, autoharp, chromatic bells, hand bells, Orff instruments, and drums from around the world. They are also able to record and edit music in the Music Studio.
The Strings Program is open to students in Grade 3–Grade 5. Students in the Strings Program receive instruction on various stringed instruments, including violin, cello, and viola.
The Maximo Chorus has performed at shopping malls, the main post office, the Vinoy, the Don CeSar, and other locations throughout the community. In 2005, 91 Maximo music students were featured on Student Measures, Channel 14.
Annually, students in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grades along with the 4th and 5th Grade Chorus perform for families and the community.
